Volunteer FAQ's
FAQ's about volunteering at the Kingston Youth Shelter.

How old do I have to be to volunteer at the Kingston Youth Shelter?

Generally speaking, you must be at least 18 years old - though certain exceptions apply, such as students wishing to fullfill their volunteer hours for high school.  If you are younger, but would still like to help, contact us.  There may be something you can do!

Do I need a CPIC to volunteer at the Kingston Youth Shelter?

Not usually...because most of our positions do not involve coming into contact with our clients, this is generally not needed, though there may be some instances when it could be required.  If you are volunteering time to do a special project outside the shelter, a CPIC is not necessary.

What are my duties as a volunteer?

Duties vary, depending on the person and your volunteer position (student, Board Member, etc).  Please see those section for more detailed explanations.  If you still have more questions, please call us!!!

Do I need specialized training or education to volunteer at the Kingston Youth Shelter?

Not at all!!!   All that is needed is a genuine interest in wanting to help youth.  A sense of humor comes in handy as well!!!

Is there any length of commitment?

Board members are committed for a one year term - other positions are flexible

I want to volunteer.  Now what?
